Let your soul take you
To a place of paradise …
Let it endeavor to overwhelm you
For your paradise is but the creation of your mind
Laura Simoes
The mind of a poet is a rhapsody of unparalleled devotion, that harbors placidity and harmony, and chambers minute interplay between introspection and the external surrounding world. It is entwined and weaved with vivid colors, patterns, thoughts and feelings. It is a space visited often, where creativity and intellect are in abundance and where even a roller-coaster ride may be piquant to the mind.
A poet’s mind is inherent with an astute overflow of artistic brain waves that cannot be seen or heard. A poet absorbs feelings, emotions and experiences quite unlike an ordinary individual. A poet has the ingenious aptitude to interpret such emotions and experiences in a manner of unmitigated surrender of self … total assertion of innovation and assimilation. To a poet, the task at hand is intriguing … capturing the esoteric thoughts and transforming them into rhyme, rhythm and verse. Only a mind saturated with imagery and innate creation can deliver what is enthusiastically a liberation of expression. Reviving such an expression is the ultra charisma that is prevalent in the mind of a poet.
The underlying noise we face each day of survival is impervious and can throw off balance even the highly cogent mind. The frustrations that daunt our existence can permeate and intrude the mind like a worm that has found its niche. In the same way, the perils of disharmony can cloud the mind of all emotion and feeling. Such disruptions must be envisaged and accepted; otherwise how would we strive for perfection? How would the gigantic beauty of a rising or setting sun thrill us to love nature? And similarly, how would a rainy day and the sweet smell of rain entice us to realize that maybe tomorrow a vermillion sun will shine in abundance? Disharmony is necessary to a certain extent … maybe it invites the mind to seek a little rest, truly, if one has over-utilized its capacity to a point of saturation and undue lament.
It is important to mention here that a poet’s mind is vulnerable to variations of extreme diversion – a time of immaculate creativity and a time of impediment. Both these traits demonstrate the humane nature of a poet and his or her mind. Brain fog is another juncture wherein the mind of a poet rebels and meditates on quite the uncanny. The mind is thrown into disarray and may temporarily shut down as it struggles to organize itself into a state of tranquility. Finding oneself at an irrevocable juncture, one has no outlet but to succumb to the momentum of the mind. It is futile to fight back … such a retaliation can only cause undue frustration and upheaval.
Alternatively, there may be a moment when a poet’s mind is like a box of jewels; only the poet can make a judgment on which jewel to adorn and which to preserve for a later task. As the precious stones are embellished, they enchant the mind with sparkle and festivity. The poet then deciphers in what capacity to utilize the jewel … be it devotion … introspection … or the burning desire to assimilate a poetic manuscript. The mind integrates in unison and strives to bestow a luscious molding of heart and soul. At this stage, there is an underlying synchrony of emotion, thought and rhythm. Waves of creativity festoon the mind, overflowing in all directions, engaging the overpowering systemic utilization of a yearning state of invention. What follows is inexorable … a manifestation of achievement, triumph and ecstasy. The mind delivers the prayer … the passion … and a gargantuan of immense celebration.
So, my friend, strive to take undue advantage of such a situation – for a moment like this will draw out your wisdom. Embrace it while it opens its door, cause this is when your mind will conform and conjure the ultra composition of your writing. Savor it … it is a constellation of your passionate work.
